1958 Wedgwood Terracotta Jasperware Lidded Jar Sacrifice Figures 4.5” Tall
1958 Wedgwood Terracotta Jasperware Lidded Jar Sacrifice Figures 4.5” Tall
A diminutive and especially appealing example of 1958 Wedgwood jasperware in the sought-after Terracotta colorway, produced in full production for only a brief period from 1957–1959, with limited quantities made thereafter. The distinctive color was described by Wedgwood as dark salmon; in person, it has a warm, muted, earthy salmon tone rather than a bright pink.
Measuring approximately 4½” high to the top of the finial and 3¼” across the base, this petite lidded jar features crisp white applied neoclassical relief. The Sacrifice Figures motif encircles the body, while classical foliage decorates the fitted domed lid, finished with a round finial.
Dated 1958, the piece falls directly within Wedgwood’s short production period for this distinctive Terracotta jasperware color. Its sought-after coloring and diminutive scale make it a particularly striking departure from the more familiar Wedgwood blue jasperware.
Excellent vintage condition with no chips or cracks. Please review all photographs for condition and details.
The warm dark-salmon Terracotta color can be difficult to reproduce precisely in photographs. Every effort has been made to represent it as accurately as possible, although the color may vary slightly with lighting and individual screen settings.
